2011 BMW activehybrid 7

The new BMW Activehybryde 7 it is said to be, according to the manufacturer, the most powerful hybrid luxury sedan in the world. It is available in short- and long-wheelbase variants.

The new model,2011 BMW Activehybrid 7,is the first hybrid sedan made by the German automaker and it follows in the steps of the BMW ActiveHybrid X6, each equipped with somewhat different hybrid technology. The Activehybrid has appeared in showrooms this spring.

The standard model has the same platform as the standard 7 Series and looks almost the same, with the exception of badges and the unique wheels. The long-wheelbase version is different, it has been stretched by 5.5 inches wanting to create additional room in the rear seat. Both models have the same hybrid power plants, rear-wheel-drive powertrains and transmissions.

As far as hardware is concerned under the hood of the car the BMW Activehybrid 7 has a gasoline-powered, 4.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. Just the engine is rated at 400 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft of torque.

Another extremely important thing is safety and this model does not lack at all in this sector. According to the representatives from BMW all the components in the BMW ActiveHybrid 7’s have a high-voltage system feature with full insulation and special plug connectors. The battery is also protected by a high-strength steel housing positioned within the wheel keeping it protected in case of damage in a crash. Safety systems present in the BMW include front- and side-impact air bags, front or rear side curtain air bags down the length of the passenger cabin, and knee air bags for the two front occupants. In case of an accident, the standard BMW assist automatic emergency calling system is newly enhanced to include accident severity analysis. Standard active safety features in BMW ActiveHybrid 7 include anti-lock brakes, start-off assistant, dynamic stability control (DSC) with brake fade compensation, brake drying, dynamic traction control (DTC), and dynamic brake control.

The new BMW Activehybrid 7 is equipped with two electrical networks connected with each other. This model has a 120-volt network with a lithium-ion battery which helps supply power to the electric motors and to the primary gasoline engine starters. This battery generates 400 watts per hour and it is formed of 35 individual cells. The battery does not take much space and it can be stored under the trunk floor and it is very compact. All this things mean that the electrical storage system requires minimal compromise to overall luggage and it does not affect the BMW weight distribution.
